BOTOX® Cosmetic is the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, an FDA-approved protein that reduces muscle activity and dynamic skin wrinkling. These office-based injections temporarily reduce or eliminate vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead creases, crow’s feet near the outer eyes, visible bands in the neck, and other less common facial concerns. BOTOX® injections can also be used to treat migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and certain muscle spasm conditions. Expert use of BOTOX® Cosmetic requires an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy, muscle activity, and the product itself. In our office, Dr. Brian Braithwaite and Dr. Lorri Cobbins—our board-certified plastic surgeons—freshly mix all the BOTOX® injections themselves, and only our doctors inject the product. We have yet to encounter a less than satisfied BOTOX® Cosmetic patient in our practice.
To determine if you are a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic, you will meet with one of our doctors during your consultation. After understanding your goals and desires, your doctor will carefully examine your facial regions. They will devise an individualized treatment plan and explain it to you. If you elect to proceed with treatment, our doctors inject BOTOX® Cosmetic with a very small needle. We offer topical anesthetic cream to minimize any discomfort during the injections. Bruising is rare. The full effects of BOTOX® injections can take up to two weeks to set in, and the benefits should last at least three to four months. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise just after treatment but patients may drive and return to work immediately.
