Home/Nonsurgical Procedures/KYBELLA™ Double Chin Reduction

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patients at least 18 years of age, KYBELLA™ is a revolutionary injectable procedure designed to nonsurgically enhance the contour of the under-chin area by diminishing submental fullness – a common concern frequently referred to as a “double chin.” Considered an alternative to surgical liposuction of the neck, this minimally invasive treatment works to dismantle and eliminate excess fat cells that have accumulated underneath the chin, all with minimal to no downtime and long-lasting results.

The KYBELLA™ procedure is administered in the convenience and comfort of our office by one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Brian Braithwaite and Dr. Lorri Cobbins. During treatment, the deoxycholic acid-based solution is carefully injected into targeted buildups of fatty tissue below the chin and/or along the jawline using an ultra-fine needle. Once injected, the advanced KYBELLA™ formula helps to break down and destroy submental fat cells over time, eventually creating a slimmer, leaner, more toned under-chin profile.

The majority of individuals experience little to no pain during the KYBELLA™ procedure, but topical anesthesia can be applied before treatment to help maximize comfort. Depending on the number of injections necessary to attain an ideal outcome, the entire treatment process generally takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and most patients are able to resume normal, non-strenuous activities and daily routines in as little as one to two days, if not right away.

Some degree of bruising and/or swelling may initially manifest in the treatment area, though these symptoms should subside with time and can often be covered with makeup. In addition, any potential discomfort and/or soreness following the KYBELLA™ procedure can typically be controlled with medication and should also also dissipate relatively quickly.

For most patients, approximately two to four KYBELLA™ treatments are needed to achieve visible results, and some individuals may require up to six sessions spaced at least one month apart to achieve an optimal outcome. Once the desired aesthetic is attained, however, retreatment is usually not necessary as the effects of KYBELLA™ tend to be exceptionally long-lasting, often permanent.
